Not this time

Time sure does fly when you busy yourself with other things…

Here is what I’ve been meaning to write now for a week. This was not our baby. We should have listened to all the adoption advice we had received from the beginning. What I have learned – I am just as good at counting my chickens before they are hatched as I am in throwing babies out with bathwater (symbolically only).

We received the final call early last week. Our birthmother had delivered a healthy baby girl, but had changed her mind and decided to parent her. There really is nothing more to say. We are saddened by the thought that we won’t get to watch this little girl grow up in our home, but we are encouraged that she will be with her mother who loves her and her two siblings. God brought her into our prayers for several weeks and while we don’t know why, we rest in knowing that He knows.

So, what now? We are currently at the end of a week of vacation. Well needed rest. We have enjoyed some time on day trips up to places like the Finger Lakes but mostly we have been working on the nursery. Well, that has morphed into rewiring the entire second floor – but you get the picture. We are keeping busy and enjoying time together. Perhaps we are the only married couple that enjoys the stress of home improvements.

As for the adoption, we are looking forward to what will come. Now we truly believe all the words of wisdom that this is a roller coaster like nothing else we have ever encountered and that there is NO “sure thing” in adoptions. Our profile is back into circulation in the offices and is being shown again to birthmothers.

Thank you for all of your support, encouragement and prayers.
